Lost and found: short-term dynamics of flora on small Arctic islands (White Sea).

White Sea Expeditions is of Moscow South-West High School (with support of Kandalaksha Natural Reserve) is the annual project started in 1999 in Russian Arctic, in the environs of Chupa gulf nearby to Arctic circle, with the main goal to provide biological research in areas which can benefit both science and biological education. One of running projects concerns with long-term changes in flora of small islands and islets of Kiv gulf. These islands are unique in many ways;one of most unusual feature is that they are constantly rising with incredibly high speed and therefore are extremely young in geological sense. This and other specific characteristics make Kiv gulf islands more than appropriate objects to study temporal changes, both evolutionary and ecological. Since 1999, Expedition made three global inventories of island flora. We analysed the gathered data (251species and 64 triples of islands) and will discuss our results.
