Systematics Section/ASPT Crowl, Andy [1], Cellinese, Nico [2]. Evolution and Biogeography of the Endemic Roucela complex (Campanulaceae) in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Campanuloideae include over 1000 species found primarily in the Northern Hemisphere. One group of particular interest is the putatively monophyletic Roucela complex, which includes approximately 12 species traditionally included in Campanula. This taxonomically complex group is primarily distributed within the eastern Mediterranean basin, with many of the taxa restricted to a single or a few islands. This work examines the phylogenetic relationships and biogeography of the Roucela complex within the context of the larger Campanuloideae based on chloroplast and low-copy nuclear markers.
