Divergence dates in Brassicales: a focus on fossils.

Several analyses of molecular divergence dates exist for Brassicales. While some of the dates inferred agree among analyses, others vary significantly, suggesting underlying differences to the methods and data employed. We focus on fossil calibrations, one of the most important factors known to affect the age range of inferred divergence dates. A careful re-examination of the potential set of fossils for calibration and their use in published analyses provides insight into the issues surrounding divergence dating in the order.
